Royal Enfield Books
Former motorcycle journalist, Miles Davis, has lived in India off and on for almost 30 years. During that time he made it his goal to study and practise the Hindu religion and yoga.
In Motorcycle Yoga, Miles tells of his extraordinary experiences travelling on a 350cc Royal Enfield Bullet, which he wonderfully describes as "Loyal, royal and ready to boil".
During his two-wheeled pilgrimages across India, he barely escaped with his life in tact: he was put into a trance by an evil yogi, caught up in riots, and at one point, thrown in jail for murder... he was innocent, of course.
But this book is so much more than an exciting travelogue. It gives many insights into the history of India, the present day economic changes, the culture and the people. It also provides a fascinating in-depth introduction to the complex but intriguing holy and mystical elements of Hinduism.
Throughout, Miles beautifully describes from the vantage point of his saddle the sights, sounds, smells and dangers that assault the senses of any would-be motorcycle yogi. A fascinating, eclectic work.
